About American Tree Service

American Tree Service is locally owned and operated and has been proudly serving the Baltimore Maryland area for 29 years. We concentrate on tree trimming, thinning, cabling, consultation, tree removal, stump grinding, bush trimming, bush removal, and vegetation management. Our clients include home owners, Home Owners Associations, contractors, property management firms, industries, businesses, and agricultural establishments.

All wood debris generated from tree care operations are recycled through means of mills that produce decorative mulch, fire wood, or lumber operations. American Tree Service is fully licensed & insured, maintains active Maryland Licensed Tree Expert #768, and participates in continuing knowledge of new techniques and equiptment in order to remain current in this growing field.

Our History

Owner Stephan Szoke started his working career in the carpentry field. In 1990 while the carpentry industry was slow Stephan decided to lend a hand to a tree industry friend looking for extra help. Here he began to learn and appreciate the unique arboristry industry. Every tree job large or small is truly unique and presents a challenge on a daily basis. Over his first five years, Stephan learned and honed the art of safe tree removal, and all aspects of the tree care industry. In 1995 Stephan earned his Maryland Licensed Tree Expert, license #768. He purchased his first commercial chipper to set out on his own, from that point, American Tree Service was born.

Over the years Stephan has continued to grow his knowledge, staying current with new equipment and techniques, and has passed down this knowledge to his crew. American Tree Service has been in charge of servicing historic and interesting properties such as Fort McHenry, the Hampton National Historic Site, and Quarry Lake at Greenspring among others. American Tree Service has regularly worked with property management companies such as MacKenzie Commercial Real Estate Services, American Community Management, Obrecht Properties, Hirschfeld Management, and Morgan State University, as well as servicing the tree care needs of thousands of local Maryland home owners.

In order to satisfy the needs of our clients while maintaining overall safety and the health of their trees, careful selection of employees is of the utmost importance. All employees are hired for character, aptitude, and friendly attitude. They are consistently being provided with opportunities to increase their knowledge of aboriculture, safety, tree care techniques and skills as a part of their continuing education and career.
